One day in 2015, the three astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) received a distressing alert. Ground control operators warned that a chunk of space debris was heading towards them at nearly twenty times the speed of a bullet. The astronauts had mere minutes to prepare the station for impact and make their way to an escape capsule. If the station were to be destroyed, the capsule was their only way to get home. Fortunately, the object missed, and the astronauts resumed their work on the station.
